Max Domi would need to make sacrifices to stay with Leafs
In his first year as General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving signed Max Domi, son of the team's former enforcer Tie Domi, to a one-year deal worth $3 million.
Over the course of 78 games with the Leafs, Max Domi has scored nine goals and contributed 36 assists. As he approaches unrestricted free agency, NHL insider James Mirtle suggests that Domi would need to accept a lower salary to stay with Toronto. Mirtle speculates that while Domi might be looking for security in terms of a longer contract term, his decision could hinge on his desire to remain with the Leafs rather than seeking the highest salary available elsewhere.
"I could see a world where something comes together, but it would have to be driven by him really wanting to be here and not just going for the most term and dollars he can get." - James Mirtle
Domi may have to choose between more money and Maple Leafs
Throughout his NHL career, which includes stints with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, and Dallas Stars, Domi has played 659 games, scoring 130 goals and making 285 assists. The question facing Treliving and the Leafs is whether to attempt to re-sign Domi in the offseason, potentially at a discount, or allocate the budget to other team needs. This decision will likely depend on Domi's performance and his fit with the team's strategic goals moving forward.
