Mitch Marner bans the media from his charity event amidst trade rumors
Recent reports have come out confirming that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner banned media from his charity event after recent trade rumors.
This summer has been the one of the Mitch Marner saga for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Throughout the summer several outlets have continued to try and push Mitch Marner out of town through reports and rumors. Yesterday Mitch Marner decided to take back some control by banning media outlets from his charity event.
Local news stations were granted interviews on Friday, when the on-ice activities were held, with the understanding that they would keep the questions about the event. Both major sports networks (TSN and Sportsnet) were told not to attend.
Mitch Marner did speak with local media outlets and did promote the charity event he held. Throughout the questions were kept strictly to the event and did not venture into his future with the Maple Leafs.
Mitch Marner is doing media rounds for his Marner Assist Foundation today, a great charity now in its 6th year.
This year, though, has been quite different as far as interviews go. No #Leafs questions permitted.
Here is the interview he did with CTV this hour.
It is commendable of Mitch Marner to set this boundary. He wants to keep the focus of the day on the charity and the funds being raised as opposed to his own issues. However, it can also be seen as Mitch Marner avoiding the media and talking about his future with the Maple Leafs.
Regardless of whether or not Mitch Marner addresses it Brad Treliving and the front office have a decision to make. It seems as though new head coach Craig Berube is open to working with Mitch Marner. However, the fans seem to want him gone which creates a difficult position for the Maple Leafs heading into the 2024-25 season.
