NHL insider Dave Feschuk shared his thoughts on the Toronto Maple Leafs today, noting how fans cannot celebrate team successes for one specific reason.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have become notorious for their lack of playoff success in recent years.

Despite having a stat-studded roster that includes Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner, the team just can't seem to get past that wall in the postseason.

The team has made the playoffs every year since 2017 and yet they have just one series victory, a first-round win against the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2023.

That year they proceeded to lose in the second round against the Florida Panthers, winning just one game.

The constant losing has worn heavy on Leafs fans, who know that they can't count on the team to win when it matters, even if they have consistent regular-season success.

This is exactly what NHL insider Dave Feschuk said today on the First Up podcast.

"It's a sad truth. You know, the beginning of the season.... one of the things that I wrote was that it's really sad, because what they've done in failing and failing and failing, I can say failing many more times in the playoffs, is they've sapped the joy of the regular season for the fans. The fans can't trust the regular season.

They can't enjoy players having career highs or winning individual trophies or whatever else happens. That's good. It is coming with an asterisk, and it's a massive, absolutely flashing asterisk. You cannot ignore them, right? And, and that's the sad thing about their playoff failure, more than anything, really, other than the fact they haven't brought the joy of the Deep Run, it's that it has sucked the joy out of the 82 games."

It is true that individual Leafs have had much to celebrate. For example, Auston Matthews has three Rocket Richard trophies since 2021.

But to fans, how much do those things really matter? Will it help Matthew's Hall of Fame case one day? Absolutely, but is that really in question?

Furthermore, most fans would rather see their team win a championship than see individual successes from the players.

Will this be another disappointing season for Leafs fans? The team will clearly make the playoffs, but will they actually go on a deep run? Stay tuned to find out.
