Ryan Reaves makes a major proclamation regarding Auston Matthews
The Toronto Maple Leafs have the best goalscorer in the NHL in Auston Matthews and recently Ryan Reaves made a major claim regarding his abilities.
During the Toronto Maple Leafs last game against the Buffalo Sabres, Auston Matthews netted his 60th goal of the season through only 72 games played.
Today, locker room leader and veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves commented on Matthews' potential to his 70 goals.
Ryan Reaves asked if 70 was possible for Auston Matthews: «I think 80 is possible. Anything is possible with that guy.»
As it stands, the Toronto Maple Leafs have 9 games left in the season. For Matthews to hit the 70-goal mark this year he would need to score over a goal per game pace but there have been multiple instances this season where Matthews has scored 10+ goals in 9 games or less.
Matthews has struggled at times during this season but at his best, he is certainly over a goal-per-game player and could very well hit 80 goals for the Maple Leafs next season if everything goes well.
We will have to wait and see if Reaves is right about Matthews' ability but given how he sees what Matthews does on the day-to-day, there is a fair chance he is right.
