Jonathan Quick is not the bonafide star-starting goalie that he once was in his prime. These days he is a backup to Igor Shesterkin and seldom gets to start a game. However, last night he was given the net and accomplished a major milestone.
Against the Arizona Coyotes, Jonathan Quick was looking to secure win number 392. This number is significant because it would place him alone at the top of the wins list for an American in the NHL. The game would go on to test Jonathan Quick and the New York Rangers.
The Rangers would get out to a quick 2-0 lead before the Coyotes fought back. After two periods the game was tied at three. The third period would be an absolute goal fest on each side ending in an 8-5 win for the New York Rangers. While the win was not pretty it did secure Jonathan Quick his record.
As a result of the big win for Jonathan Quick, he did indeed grab win 392. Jonathan Quick now passes former Buffalo Sabre Ryan Miller who had previously held the record.
It is still odd seeing Jonathan Quick in a jersey other than the Los Angeles Kings but his stint with the New York Rangers has allowed us all to witness history.
With the playoffs coming in the next couple of weeks Jonathan Quick likely won't see too much more action this season unless there is an injury to Igor Shesterkin. Now that he has secured this record one has to wonder if we are seeing the last games Jonathan Quick will ever play.
Regardless Jonathan Quick has now placed himself in the history books and will one day have a place in Toronto in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
