There has been much speculation about what the new name will be for the Utah Hockey Club's forthcoming NHL team, until now, at least.
Forward Clayton Keller may have let the cat out of the bag a little early. During last week's NHL North American Players Media Tour, a question about the secret team name was tossed his way. Not holding back very long, Keller coolly said what he thinks will be the name of the team.
"Yeti" has been one of the popular favorites floating around on social media, but another strong guess has been "Blizzard". Still, Keller's comment sets fans abuzz. Do they think that he is onto something or just making a wild guess?
Of course, with the hype, it'll be some time before we get confirmation. Utah HC decided not to disclose their name during the maiden season. Perhaps they want to save the formal name announcement for a reason or two: maybe because of the short period of turnaround between the purchase of the Arizona Coyotes and the start of their new chapter in the NHL, or they need to have their branding just right before releasing the official name.
If you're a bit more cynical, it's a slick way to sell two rounds of "inaugural" jerseys, one for this nameless first season, and another when the new name drops.
Will Clayton Keller's Yeti prediction come true in season two, or will it be something totally different? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
