A blockbuster trade scenario has emerged involving Vancouver Canucks superstar Elias Pettersson
An NHL insider has just proposed a blockbuster trade scenario involving Canucks superstar Elias Pettersson, that would see him moved to the Eastern Conference.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman floated out one blockbuster trade idea that's sure to blow the minds of many sets of fans.
On his podcast, Elliotte Friedman threw out a blockbuster trade between the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks that would send Canucks superstar Elias Pettersson to a new home.
"I had some time on Sunday to think and I was thinking about the Sabres and I was thinking about Rick Tocchet and what he had to say on Saturday and reiterated on Sunday,"
said Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "I want to stress this is purely in my head, who says no? [Dylan] Cozens and [Byram] Bowen for Pettersson. If that was proposed I think that Vancouver is more likely to say no than Buffalo," admitted Friedman.
This comes on the heels of sharp criticism from the Canucks by president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford and head coach Rick Tocchet after Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Boston Bruins.
On Sunday, Rick Tocchet doubled down, where he made it clearly apparent he wasn't happy one iota with the effort.
Friedman ceded the Canucks would certainly balk, having to trade the best player in the deal. In would come Elias Pettersson, carrying an $11.6-million cap hit in the first year of his eight-year contract, to the Buffalo club.
Heading back to Vancouver in the proposed deal is Dylan Cozens, whose seven-year deal carries a cap hit of $7.1 million in year two, and D Bowen Byram, whose $3.85 million deal expires at the end of the season.
Curiously, the Canucks would decrease their cap hit by $650,000 in such a deal, though Bowen Byram would need a new contract next year.
A deal of this magnitude would alter the course of two franchises: for the Vancouver side, it means depth and balance, while for Buffalo, perhaps a franchise player to put them over the top.
