Over the past month, Phil Kessel signing in Vancouver has seemed like a certainty, but now it has been revealed just how quickly he needs to sign.
Timeline on Phil Kessel signing for playoff eligibility
According to Cap Friendly, Kessel will need to sign a deal by 3PM ET this Friday if he wants to be playoff eligible, whether he signs for Vancouver or any other playoff contender.
Worth noting that Kessel would need to sign a contract prior to 3pm ET on Friday in order to be playoff eligible.
This post from Cap Friendly came in response to Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal, who revealed that there's been no update on Kessel's future in Vancouver, despite there being optimism he will land with the Canucks.
Where will Phil Kessel end up?
With so many playoff teams looking for depth as the Stanley Cup Playoffs approach, there should be a major market for a three-time Stanley Cup winner, but beyond Vancouver, we've not heard much interest around Kessel.
The trade deadline is on Friday, so it's likely that Vancouver are looking to see what they can add via trade before making a deal happen, and if they can add a big piece via trade and still bring in Phil the Thrill, this team may be for real in 2023-24.
