With hockey now in full swing hockey fans can see the next generation of NHL stars play in the American Hockey League. Last night in an early season matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks affiliate the Rockford IceHogs and the Detroit Red Wings affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins things got heated.
In the third period with the game out of hand in the favor of the IceHogs, the Griffins were trying to find any momentum they could. This led Grand Rapids Griffins 2nd year forward and former first-round pick Marco Kasper to step up to the plate. He would challenge Blackhawks prospect Colton Dach the brother of Kirby Dach to a fight. Dach would ultimately take control and win the fight against Kasper.
Colton Dach would end up getting the majority of the best punches in against Marco Kasper but both hung in there tough. Both would end up getting fighting majors and were sent on their respective ways. To add to his fight win Colton Dach tallied a goal in the big win for the IceHogs as well. The fight ultimately would not change the outcome as the IceHogs would go on to win 4-1.
Both Marco Kasper and Colton Dach will now continue on in their careers as they look to carve out their path to the NHL level. As the season continues it will be worth watching if either player begins fighting on a regular basis to separate themselves from their other teammates.
