The New York Rangers are hosting the Philadelphia Flyers tonight for a game at Madison Square Garden.
Unfortunately, there was a very scary scene late in the second period of the contest as Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller inadvertently kicked Flyers forward Anthony Richard in the face.
Richard immediately went down to the ice, clutching his face.
Richard was lunging for the puck from behind Miller, trying to disrupt the defenseman with his stick as he was already just inches off the surface of the ice which is why he got hit in the face.
Luckily, the 28-year-old did not appear to be seriously cut or injured on the play.
He was eventually able to get up and skate back to the bench on his own.
Miller even skated over to him to make sure he was alright and apologize for the scary accident.
Richard did, however, go down the tunnel towards the Flyers locker room, presumably for repairs.
Richard was playing in just his 8th game with the Flyers this season. In his previous seven games, he had 2 goals and 6 points.
He was selected 100th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2015 but has only appeared in 31 career NHL games, recording 6 goals and 14 points in the process.
However, the most important thing is his health. Luckily it seems that he will be just fine after tonight's game.
Skate-related injuries are certainly no joke and should be taken extremely seriously, which is exactly what happened tonight as the Flyers trainer responded quickly.
In this case, the response was just precautionary, but we have seen things get bad very quickly in the past.
