This past week Blake Wheeler went down with a brutal injury and there is now chatter that his NHL career may be over.

Wheeler Goes Down With A Brutal Injury

When the New York Rangers faced off against the Montreal Canadiens, things took a horrible turn after Blake Wheeler went down with an injury.

It was later announced that the injury would knock Wheeler out for the regular season and potentially the playoffs depending on how deep the Rangers go.

Blake Wheeler is being placed on LTIR by the #NYR with a lower-body injury and won't return at all during the regular season. Even getting back for the playoffs is unlikely but will depend on his recovery and how far the team progresses.

After the play, fans were worried that this could be the end of Wheeler's career as he is 36 years old and the injury looked quite serious.

Trouba Comments On Wheeler's Injury

After the game, Ranger captain Jacob Trouba commented on Wheeler's injury.

Raw answer from Jacob Trouba on Blake Wheeler's injury. He stressed how much he's meant to him since their days in WPG.

«I'm not saying this is true, but maybe he played his last hockey game. It's emotional. It's something you think about. You don't take things for granted.»

This is the second time the pair has been teammates as Wheeler used to captain Trouba in Winnipeg before Trouba was traded to New York.

Hopefully this is not the end for Wheeler but as of now, things appear to be quite bleak.
