Auston Matthews Commits to Make the Ultimate Sacrifice to Help the Leafs Win a Cup
There's rumors runing around that Auston Matthews will ask for the highest salary in NHL's history.
If everything goes according to the plan, he'll ask something close to $13M. This isn't unreasonnable, considering Matthews is among the top players in the league.
Frank Seravalli confirmed his demands:
"His next contract is not about setting a record, it's not about getting 4x$15M.
He wants to win and he needs to find a spot that pays him appropriately and gives the Leafs room to go out and make moves."
If not in Toronto...
If Matthews were to enter the free agents market, he could possibly gain more. However, he seems to have set his mind on Toronto and is reportedly ready to accept $2M less.
Also, what could come into consideration is Matthews' intentions to get a short-term contract. He doesn't want to find himselft in the same situation as Connor McDavid, who signed a huge contract soon in his career only to see others earn more afterall.
Do you think Matthews will sign in Toronto before July 1st?
