Over the last 2 years, we've been seeing quite a few of the NHL pioneers pass away, and we are saddened to say that today we have lost another member of our hockey family.
Millions of people have dreamt about playing in the National Hockey League, and when someone makes it to the big stage, it's quite the accomplishment. When someone born in Toronto though gets to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, that's something you will never forget.
Ken Girard was never drafted, but played in the OHA for the Toronto Marlboros. He got ''the call'' to come play for the Maple Leafs on 3 separate occasions, and you can bet that was an absolute dream come true.
The Toronto Maple Leafs sadly announced today though that their alumni has passed away at the age of 86:
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Toronto native, Ken Girard.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Ken's family.
On behalf of House of Hockey, we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Girard family, may he rest in peace.
