The Pittsburgh Penguins are fighting for their playoff lives right now. They are currently in a battle for a Wild Card position with the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. Currently they hold the second wild position, one point up on the Florida Panthers.
Both teams are playing tonight and we could see these positions swapped by morning.
The Penguins have not missed the playoffs for 17 straight seasons but are at risk of missing it this year if they do not start playing better. With a record of 4-5-1 in their last 10, their hopes of holding onto a playoff spot just got a little tougher as well.
It was just announced that Penguins will be without Tristan Jarry for tonights game, and possibly the foreseeable future.
Jarry has been reportedly dealing with an injury all season and has only played in 40 games.
Casey DeSmith is a very reliable backup for the Penguins with a similar save percentage to Tristan Jarry, but if the Penguins want to ensure they make the playoffs, this is going to significantly hurt their chances with only 11 games remaining in the season.
