Fans have always assumed that referee's tried to control a game and were able to change the outcomes, but this was the first time that proof was even provided on the actions.
Peel did not take his termination lightly, and since then Peel has created his own podcast and social media accounts to try and bring light to fans.
Yesterday Peel posted a "ask me anything" question and a fan quickly asked about refs managing games:
Which Peel responded:
That's a great question and a very fair question. Make up calls are not a thing. What happens is if we have so many penalties against one team our antennas are up to make sure we do not miss a penalty against the other team. Tim Peel (@TimCPeel20) September 15, 2022
Fans who knew about the Peel situation though quickly began to rip into him:
So make up calls don't exist but you're hyper aware of one team not getting penalized and are more likely to give them a penalty because your antennas are up.
Do you realize how fucking stupid you sound? That's literally how make up calls work. Ty Turbo (@Team_Turbo_1) September 15, 2022
So when you said you wanted to "get a fucking penalty against Nashville early in the" --- period? --- was that you putting your antennas up to make sure you didn't miss a penalty on them (make up call)? Fitzy (@HeyFitzy) September 15, 2022
that's the definition of a makeup call, genius Staff & Graph Podcast (@StaffGraph) September 15, 2022
