Recently the southern California wildfires have been in the news for causing millions of dollars in damages and for even tragically taking lives. The NHL was put on notice for today's game between the Kings and Calgary Flames and decided that it was safest to postpone the game.
Insider Frank Seravalli reports the following:
Fans were quick to approve of the decision to postpone this game as sports are far from the forefront of everybody's mind at moments like this.
This likely means that other sporting events for LA-based teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Rams, and more could also follow the Kings' example.
This is the second game postponed by the NHL due to natural disasters. The Tampa Bay Lightning had to cancel their game versus the Carolina Hurricanes due to Hurricane Milton. It took till yesterday for the game to be played where the Lightning took down the Hurricanes in a 3-2 victory. This game will likely be postponed till March or April. Till then, the Calgary Flames will fly to their next game and the Kings will also likely follow suit.
We are keeping those in California at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers during this trying time and hope that those impacted can have the strength to get through this. Some things are simply bigger than sports.
