After being bought out by the Winnipeg Jets, Blake Wheeler will be searching for a new NHL home, following a longtime Winnipeg Jets career spanning from it's beginning, have being traded from the Boston Bruins in 2011 to the then- Atlanta Thrashers.
Wheeler is still a very serviceable forward at the age of 36, having had 16 Goals and 55 Points this season for the Jets, only a few seasons removed from back-to-back 91 Point seasons.
If he's available at a low-value cost, Wheeler would be a strong veteran option for Toronto, who may be out on Free Agents Alex Kerfoot & Michael Bunting, expecting to be highly sought out by teams at a far greater asking price than the Leafs can afford, needing space for the upcoming signings of their core-four group.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman tweeted, citing Wheeler's agent, that his client would prefer playing in the Eastern Conference as a change of scenery to Wheeler, who has spent over a decade out west in Winnipeg.
Wheeler may be expensive as well, depending on his value in the open market, and as a dependable and longstanding player, he adds a serviceable sense of leadership for teams.
Depending on his value, Blake Wheeler could be an underrated addition to any team, including the Leafs.
