Brad Marchand Reveals Thoughts on Being Named Captain of the Bruins
As you're likely aware, Patrice Bergeron made headlines this summer with his retirement from the NHL.
The Boston Bruins are now in search of a new team captain, and Brad Marchand seems like the logical successor.
Marchand recently spoke on the subject.
Marchand Opens Up About Captaincy
Following a period of speculation, Marchand broke his silence on the matter of becoming the Bruins' next captain.
"[Whether or not I'm named captain] is not something that I really think about too much. Obviously, it's a big honor to be in the leadership group in this organization.
When you look at the guys that have been there before. But we've always done it collectively as a group. So regardless of who wears it, it's a collective thing.
When you lose Bergie and [David] Krejci, leadership is going to come from a group, not from one certain guy or a couple of guys. It's gonna be from a big collective group. So that's what we're going to rely on this year, particularly at a time like this."
The Next Chapter in Leadership
The departures of Bergeron and Krejci represent a significant void for Marchand. Here's his take on filling those shoes:
"I definitely feel that burden, that responsibility. It comes with the territory being around for a while and just kind of how things go. The torch gets passed down and when it's time to kind of lead the way, you got to do it. The same thing is going to go for Chucky and Pasta, and Brando and Lindy at different times as well. We'll all do it at different points throughout the year. When it is your turn to step up."
With Marchand poised to step up, we anticipate that the Bruins will make an official announcement soon, likely before training camp kicks off.
