The NHL is full of families now that run the league. The Hughes, Tkachuk, Foligno, Foote, and Benn families along with many others are the leagues most notable sibling duos. Now one set of brothers is looking to run not just the league but the world.
Tkachuk's Unite
With the recent announcement of the NHL and IIHF partnering together to make best-on-best international hockey happen one set of brothers sees an opportunity.
In a recent article written by Kyle Cushman on theScore Matthew Tkachuk lays out his biggest career goals.
"My No. 1 dream is to win a Stanley Cup. My No. 2 dream is to win a gold medal with my brother for Team USA," Tkachuk said.
Matthew is getting closer to each of those goals as the years go by. When it comes to Stanley Cups the Florida Panthers were one of the best teams in the East thanks to the addition of Tkachuk to the roster. As for a gold medal with Team USA that is now possible as well.
Team USA Looking To Dominate International Hockey
In previous iterations of international hockey the Canadians and Russians have been the dominant forces. Now with the most recent generation of American hockey players, the crown might be shifting. Matthew Tkachuk himself believes that the Americans have better talent than what they've shown in the past.
"There's so many great Americans in the league now, it's a shame that we haven't had a chance to show off,"
"Even playing in the U.S. national team when I was 15 or 16, however old I was, wearing that jersey, there's something about it that you just can't replicate," he said.
Led by superstars like the Tkachuks, Hughes brothers, Auston Matthews and Jack Eichel the Americans will be tough to beat. This doesn't even mention the several generations of USNTDP teams that came along with each of these stars. The American stars are ready to show the hockey world who they are in international competition.
