Blockbuster Linus Ullmark Trade Falls Apart At The Final Second
Recent reports have surfaced showing how Linus Ullmark was almost traded after his Vezina-winning season.
Ullmark Nearly Traded
Bruins insider Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Sports Hub has a massive report stating that the Bruins nearly traded Linus Ullmark for a massive return:
"My understanding and this is through some backchannel rumblings and conversations, so take it with a grain of salt, of course is that there was one team out there who had interest in giving Sweeney and the Bruins what would you consider a fair, market value return for Ullmark. But that trade would have required a corresponding trade that never happened, and it would have also required Ullmark agreeing to waive his no-trade clause." - Ty Anderson
While the team is currently unknown, it can be speculated that it is one of the 16 teams on Ullmark's no-trade list. It can be assumed that these teams would be near the bottom of the league or in one of the more undesirable markets to play in.
What Could Be The Team?
While this is speculation, it is highly likely that the following teams were on Ullmark's list:
Anaheim Ducks
Arizona Coyotes
Buffalo Sabres
Columbus Blue Jackets
Detroit Red Wings
Ottawa Senators
San Jose Sharks
Chicago Blackhawks
Vancouver Canucks
Winnipeg Jets
While these are only ten teams, it is fairly likely that at least 8 or 9 were on Ullmark's list. Realistically, a team like Ottawa could have made a splash for Ullmark as they have plenty of young assets to offer.
Assuming this trade would have happened before free agency, Ottawa could have potentially needed to trade Alex DeBrincat first and then trade some of the assets to Boston. However, Ottawa went out and acquired Joonas Korpisalo through free agency and has made the commitment to him. While Ottawa could have been the destination, it must be clarified that their being the destination is completely speculation.
