After the Leafs finally broke their curse and made it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they still came short after an upsetting elimination to the Florida Panthers.
After numerous seasons of collapses in the playoffs in the job, head coach Sheldon Keefe may be at his highest risk of losing his job yet. He must find a way for his team to persevere in the playoffs next season, or it may be it for him behind the bench.
Keefe has a total career record of 166-71-30 as coach of the Leafs after being hired in 2019. And under a new GM this season, winning is an even bigger necessity.
Keefe recently filled out the remaining of his coaching staff for 2023-24 by hiring on Guy Boucher and Mike Van Ryn as assistants. With both respectfully having good experience plus Boucher being a previous head coach of the Ottawa Senators, either of them are more than ready to take over as head coach if need be.
All in all, Keefe has more pressure on him than ever this season, and with a sharper roster than ever via quality offseason additions, a slow start and another team crumble may signal the end of his tenure in Toronto.
