Tim Peel is a former NHL referee who was let go when he was caught on mic in a nationally televised game, saying:
«It wasn't much, but I wanted to get a penalty against Nashville early."
Peel was in the final year of his contract to be an NHL referee and was planning to retire at seasons end, but that was not the best way to go out. Peel still had a long career as an NHL referee with 23 seasons employed.
Hit on Slafkovsky that knocked him out of the game
Late in the third period Stefan Noeson laid a big hit on Juraj Slafkovsky that was borderline and questionable at best. It can be seen as an extremely dirty play at one end and a good hit on the other. To reiterate though, it was borderline.
With many Montreal Canadiens fans clearly calling the hit dirty, Tim Peel decided to step in and comment.
It is clear the former referee does not see the hit as a dirty play on the side of Noeson.
Peel's use of social media has had some heated moments
Peel is free to use social media all he wants, and prefers to comment on a variety of topics. He also has a podcast where he airs more thoughts. Peel has gotten into social media storms and controversies in the past with his comments and words as well.
