The Calgary Flames have struggled all season long, and in Saturday's key matchup against the Seattle Kraken, one of their biggest stars has committed a major penalty.
Intentionally targeting the head
With the game tied at 0 early in the game, Flames star forward Andrew Mangiapane was assessed a game misconduct, resulting in his immediate ejection from the game.
Andrew Mangiapane just cross-checked Jared McCann's head into the ice.
That's a dirty play. Mangiapane given a match penalty for intent to injure. The cross check came directly to the back of the head of Kraken star Jared McCann, and as the crowd's reaction showed, it was as dirty a move as we've seen in recent times.
The officials showed no hesitation in tossing Mangiapane out of the game, and given how much of a priority the NHL are putting on player safety, there's no doubting he'll hear from the Department of Player Safety soon.
