Sean Avery hasn't played in the NHL in 10 years, but that doesn't mean his NHL dreams have died. Avery recently sat down with the crew of Blackballed with James DiFiore and shared his hopes for an NHL return. Avery recently took to the ice for the first time in 10 years, just 2 months ago and now the polarizing shit disturber has his sights set on an NHL return.
"Here's the plan. I've got 7 months to be physically ready to walk on to an NHL training camp. That is a lot of time. Based on how I feel right now physically and how I feel on the ice after skating 6 times after not skating for 10 years. My timing is coming back and it's getting sharper every single time. I can feel it happening."
Avery shares that he hopes to find himself an invite to Tampa Bay Lightning training camp and he unapologetically explains why, "rhat's the team I want to play for. That's the best team. It's the best state to live in, and I can wear my fucking Make America Great hats in interviews"
During his NHL career Avery was known for his ability to disrupt other teams by his trash talk both on and off the ice. Famously he made comments about Dion Phaneuf's eventual wife Elisha Cuthbert in an interview that got him suspended by the NHL.
When asked if Avery had any regrets he happily stated:
"Definitely no regrets...my shit talking was part of my arsenal. I was a small player in a big physical league where size dominates. For me that was part survival and part of my tool kit."
