The Habs currently sit in last place this season, 3 points behind the Arizona Coyotes. Yes, you heard that right, behind the Coyotes. So with a recent General Manager change, it's time for the new GM to make a splash!
According to Eklund at hockeybuzz.com the Montreal Canadiens have been in touch with the Rangers over former 1st overall pick Alexis Lafreniere.
Lafreniere has been a bit of a disappointment to say the least to start his career. While he is only 20 years old, and in the second year of his career, he had very high expectations coming into the NHL after dominating at the World Juniors for Team Canada.
In 101 career games so far, Lafreniere has only managed to produce 34 points for the Rangers, maybe it's time he gets a chance of scenery closer to his home town?
«Surprisingly, the Canadiens are also very interested in the Rangers Alexis Lafreniere, and might be offering enough that the Rangers could improve their blue line and be set for the future.» - Per his source
The Rangers have an embarrassing amount of riches when it comes to skilled forwards and young players/prospects and with players like Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome, Kreider & Trouba in their prime right now, the time is NOW to make a run for the cup.
It is rumoured that the Rangers are interested in Ben Chiarot and Artturi Lehkonen from the Habs, which would really improve the bottom pair/Penalty kill for the Rangers, and add some additional depth to the bottom 6 forwards. Of course some draft picks would need to most likely be exchanged as well.
What do you think? Is this something you would like to see for both teams?
