This morning while appearing on Sportsnet Radio 650, Hockey Insider, Frank Seravalli, shared some interesting information about the Chicago Blackhawks approach to this season's trade deadline.
According to Seravalli the only untouchables for the Blackhawks are Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones.
Both Toews and Kane were drafted by the Blackhawks and have spent their entire careers in Chicago, while Seth Jones was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets last summer. To many Seth Jones has been a disappointment since arriving in Chicago, and his new long term big money extension hasn't even kicked in yet.
Kane, 33, still has two years remaining on his current contract, but he is still producing at a point per game pace, while team Captain Jonathan Toews, 33, has put up 18 points in 39 games.
Surprisingly absent from this list of untouchable players are Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. If Seravalli's sources are correct it seems that the Blackhawks' priorities remain loyalty to aging veterans, while their team clearly needs a rebuild. This approach, especially in a year when the Blackhawks are without a 1st round pick could limit the Blackhawks ability to make impact moves in the near future.
