John Tavares Reveals His Intentions For His Upcoming Free Agency
Tavares Reveals That He Wants to Stay in Toronto
John Tavares has been the face of the Toronto Maple Leafs since he signed back in his hometown in 2018. The popular image of Tavares sleeping in his full Toronto pyjamas made its way around social media, showing just how much Tavares has loved the Leafs his entire life.
Now, with his contract set to expire in the coming years, and William Nylander signing for the long term in Toronto, Tavares was asked about his upcoming free agency. His response was exactly what Leaf fans hoped and what they'd expect from their Captain.
John Tavares is a year and a half away from free agency himself. The captain reiterates that he too wants to stay in Toronto.
As I said, you wouldn't expect Tavares to go anywhere else, given his love for the City that he grew up in and that his family is settled here.
Leaf Fans Hopeful that Tavares Will Take Team Friendly Deal Next Round
Leaf hopefuls are already looking to the future cap situation due to Nyladner's massive extension. With the cap set to go up next season, fans are already looking to what Tavares might sign for in order to help the Leafs and give them some more wiggle room. Some fans are even guessing as low as 5 million per year.
When that comes around, we will have to see. It's safe to say that Tavares's next deal will be a crucial negotiation for Brad Treliving.
