John"Torts" Tortorella is usually not happy to do post-game scrums but he is always great for sound bites and quotes when he answers questions of course.
Torts asks about Gauthier not wanting to play in Philadelphia
After the game against the Penguins, where the Flyers lost 4-1, you already knew Torts would be in an unhappy mood with that result. He was asked about the trade and bringing in Jamie Drysdale:
"We're really excited about the opportunity. a 21-year-old right-handed shot. Put him on the power play right away, one of them. He's just starting. Kid's head's spinning right now. It's his first time at this. But we're really excited about the opportunity. I think it's a really good deal for us."
The best part came when he was asked if he was surprised about Gauthier not wanting to play for the Flyers, he came up with another typical Torts top-notch quote:
"I don't know Cutter from a hole in the wall"
The Ducks and Flyers swap promising young potential stars
Cutter Gauthier was drafted fifth overall in 2022 by the Philadelphia Flyers. He had just returned back to the NCAA after winning the gold medal, along with other members, of Team USA at the World Junior championship. He made clear he was not going to sign with the Flyers and was shipped out as a result.
Jamie Drysdale was drafted sixth overall in 2020 by the Anaheim Ducks. After he was drafted he made the NHL, and played in the AHL and the World Junior Championship for Canada. In his next season, he posted 32 points in 81 games. Then in 2022-23, he missed all but eight games due to injury. This season he also missed a chunk of time from injury after missing all of training camp due to a contract negotiation.
It will be interesting to see how both players work out for each team.
