Well that's appears not to be always true. Former NHL defenseman Chris Pronger reveals that a lot of NHL players are actually struggling after retirement from the NHL.
Pronger who was one of the best and toughest defencemen to play against during his tenure, winning a Stanley cup in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks. Pronger played in 1,167 NHL games and racking up over 111 million dollars through his career before having to retire due to injury.
However many NHL players will never make that kind of dough and Pronger shared on social media interesting fact that more than 50% of of NHL players have financial issues in retirement.
That's a interesting stat Pronger reveals and 3 problems why this is:
1: Athletes tend to be wasteful early in their careers and think the money train will last forever.
2: People take advantage of athletes. You always have to have your guard up.
3: Entourage.
Hopefully players learn from others mistakes. Your professional career is only going to last so many seasons unless you're Jaromir Jagr, he's going to be 90 and still playing but for most it's a wrap before your 40 save your cash.
