NHL Insider Reveals Corey Perry's Preferred Destinations For Next Contract
One of the biggest stories in the NHL this season has been the circumstances surrounding Corey Perry and his contract termination from the Chicago Blackhawks. It was recently revealed that he is eligible to return to the league if he wants and now speculation has picked up regarding where he will sign.
Elliotte Friedman Reveals Perry's Preferences For Next NHL Team
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed today that he believes Perry does not want to sign with a big market or "loud" team. He specifically mentions Toronto and Edmonton as teams that have expressed interest in Perry but could have a tough time convincing him to sign there.
Friedman (TJMS): "I just think one of the questions, is Perry going to want somewhere quieter? TOR is a loud market, I don't think that's going to work. EDM's a louder market, though I definitely believe they have interest. Are there going to be some teams in quieter situations?"
The 38-year old was one of Chicago's best players prior to his contract termination, showing other teams that he can still be a useful player, even for a contending team.
Perry Still Playing At High Level Despite Advancing Age
The veteran forward was second on the Blackhawks in scoring before his leave of absence and eventual contract termination took place. Additionally, his advanced metrics show that the scoring was for real and he is still an effective player at the NHL level.
Many NHL teams would be interested in signing him as he could essentially be a trade deadline acquisition that a team can get without giving up any future assets. It seems that he does not want to sign in a big market though, so teams like the Florida Panthers could have a good chance of adding him to their playoff roster. Notably, Perry must sign by the NHL trade deadline in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs.
