The Florida Panthers and Anaheim Ducks squared off on Monday afternoon in a surprisingly heated affair.
The Monday afternoon affair was high-scoring and rough throughout
The game ended up being quite high-scoring as it ended up being a 5-4 contest that took until overtime to be settled. It was also
Radko Gudas' return game and both teams were in a Gudas-style mood.
The first period ended 2-1 for Florida as the Panthers scored the first two goals, one power play the other shorthanded, and Alex Killorn scored his first goal of the night to make it close.
In the second Henrique evened the game up, scoring the second shorthanded goal of the game but this one for the Ducks.
Carter Verhaeghe and
Sam Bennett, scoring his second of the game, put the Panthers back ahead by two to 4-2. Jakob Silfverberg scored late for the Ducks again to keep the score within one.
Troy Terry scored early in the third to tie it up 4-4, no other goals were scored until overtime.
There were 15 penalties in the game, including Bennett and Killorn getting matching minors late in the second one for cross-checking the other for interference. There was also another altercation midway in the third as Bennett,
Matthew Tkachuk,
Frank Vatrano, and
Mason McTavish all got two minutes each for roughing.
After scoring in Overtime Killorn and Vatrano chirp at some Florida fans
Killorn scored a minute into overtime as Tkachuk decided not to cover his player from the Ducks' end, and it was a 3 on 2. After a big save from
Anthony Stolarz on the original shot, with a little cycle Killorn scored.
There was some controversy after though as Killorn and Vatrano got into it with some fans in the stands.
According to this account, they had a reason to do so.
"some cats fans threw trash on the ice/at killorn after the game winning goal, i've heard it also hit fowler too."
Vatrano may be hearing from the league for flipping the bird to some fans in the stands, but otherwise, it seemed warranted for the ducks to be so upset.
