The NHL has a questionable record when it comes to player safety, often only making changes after an injury has occurred. According to Jeff Marek, of the Jeff Marek Show, the NHL has considered making full face shields mandatory in the NHL in the future.
If you've followed hockey at any level, you'll know that full shields have been mandatory at Tier 2 Junior A and lower for years. The news about the possible implementation likely won't go over well with NHL fans.
Years ago the NHL started to mandate new players entering the league would be forced to wear visors while current players were allowed to be grandfathered in. Now less than 20 players remain in the league without visors. The addition of full face shields though likely means the removal of fighting from the NHL completely.
