This offseason has gone terribly for Islanders fans. They have sat idly by and watched Lou Lamoriello make bad move after bad move and have not been able to do anything. From long-term extensions for players who do not deserve long-term extensions to trading away every good pick, the Islanders' future looks bleak.
Lou has signed Pierre Engvall to a 7-year deal, Semyon Varlamov to a 4-year deal, and Scott Mayfield to a 7-year deal. He also traded away Anthony Beauvillier, their top prospect Aatu Raty, and the 17th pick in this year's draft for Bo Horvat and then promptly extended him for 8 years for $8.5 million per year. Horvat scored 16 points in 30 games for the Islanders and only had two points in the playoffs.
Due to all of these terrible moves from Lamoriello, Paul Bissonnette has spoken out claiming that he is ruining the Islanders.
Looking at Lou's most recent moves, this makes a lot of sense for him to say. The team is one of the oldest in the NHL and Lou is extending all of his players to long-term deals, he could be handicapping the Islanders for potentially over two decades.
