For years the Philadelphia Flyers were thought of as one of the best organizations in the league. After a horrible season, the Flyers fired their coaching staff and are now looking to hire the 23rd coach in the organizations history, and from the sounds of it, that 23rd coach is going to be John Tortorella.

Although Tortorella is a legendary coach and is the winningest in American history, he was not the first choice by the organization. The Philadelphia Flyers offered Barry Trotz a contract worth $7+ million, which would have made him the highest paid coach in league history, but he turned it down.

According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger, Barry Trotz was not the only free agent coach who was not interested in the Flyers.

Dreger mentioned on OverDrive that several coaches were in talks with the Flyers and would continue discussions, but the Flyers were no where near the top of their list.

The Flyers were a desirable team and a team you definitely wanted to be apart of just 10 years ago. What has happened?

Do coaches believe that they're very far away from a cup? Do they think the fall out last year was due to more than just injuries and COVID?

What is going to happen with this organization?
