The Colorado Avalanche are the defending Stanley Cup champions, who are hanging onto their playoff lives by a thread right now. They are currently ranked third in the central division, but tied with the Minnesota Wild who are holding the final wild card position.
The Avalanche have been plagued with injuries all season. They haven't seen their captain Gabriel Landeskog play yet this year, MacKinnon has missed some time, Rantanen has missed some time, Nichushkin has missed time, and now it looks like Cale Makar is going to miss some time with an injury for the second time this year.
Makar is having a bit of an ''off-year'' based on his standards. The Norris and Conn Smythe trophy winner had 28 goals and 86 points in 77 games last season and 8 goals and 29 points in 20 playoff games, and this year he is under a point per game with 13 goals and 45 points in 46 games.
Makar is the heart and soul of that blue line and him missing some games could be possibly devastating in an already injured lineup:
Cale Makar is out with an upper-body injury. Day-to-day. I'm awaiting word on if it's head related.
