In their last 10 games, they are 4-4-2, and have now fallen out of a playoff spot and currently sit 2 points out of the final Wild Card spot.
After last season, the hockey world strongly believed that the Rangers would be considered one of the favourites for the Stanley Cup this year, after taking the Back-to-back Stanley Cup champions to 6 games in the playoffs.
They are a team full of young skilled talent, and some high producing veterans. They are built for the present and the future, so they should not be slumping like they currently are.
The Rangers have been considered the favourites to land Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane but at the moment they are doing everything possible to ensure that doesn't happen.
Anywhere Kane goes he is considered a rental as the majority of teams that will be bidding for him, will not be able to afford his contract next season, so any team that gets him will be for a 2023 playoff run. Kane has a full no move clause in his current contract, so he gets to decide where he goes.
He said the other day in an interview with The Athletics Scott Power:
Kane and Panarin had amazing chemistry when they played together during Panarin's first few seasons, but even his chemistry with him may not be enough for Kane to waive his NMC.
It's been reported that Kane loves Chicago, and some believe he may not be moved at all and wants to stay to take a run at more team franchise records.
One thing that is for sure though is that Kane is NOT going to waive his NMC for a team that is not in the playoffs, so if the Rangers want Patrick Kane, they better get their stuff together and get back in the playoff race.
