Yesterday the New York Rangers officially took themselves out of the Patrick Kane trade sweepstakes when they made a trade with the St. Louis Blues for Vladimir Tarasenko, a former 40 goal scorer.

Kane was viewed by many as the perfect trade target for the Rangers as he had Stanley Cup experience, which they were seriously lacking and he also had great chemistry with the Rangers superstar Artemni Panarin.

The Rangers are tight up against the cap, so pending a big move to free up cap space, they can consider themselves out on the Patrick Kane trade front as at minimum they would need to bring in $5,250,000 if the Blackhawks were to retain 50%.

It's been reported that Kane was still 'up in the air' if he wanted to be traded or not, but after this trade went down, he is apparently very unhappy.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane is a little upset that the Vladimir Tarasenko trade may have taken the New York Rangers out of the market for his services, via NBC Sports' Charlie Roumeliotis.

"It's not like the happiest I've been to hear about a trade. I think the Rangers are a team that you definitely pay attention to and definitely are intrigued by, for obvious reasons.

If things were going to happen, that was a team I was definitely looking at. It seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal, so it is what it is.»

Kane has apparently been dealing with an injury, which reportedly is why the Rangers chose to go in a different direction. But one cannot make the argument that it could end up being a big mistake and Kane would have been the better trade to make for the Rangers.
