Ever since the Chicago Blackhawks announced they were entering a rebuild last season, the whole hockey world has been discussing what this is going to mean for Patrick Kane, and when/if he will be traded out of the organization that drafted him and that he helped lead to three Stanley Cups in six years.

When it came to talking about who was going to be trading for Kane, the top team was always the New York Rangers. The Rangers are loaded with young talent and draft picks that would be of interest to the Chicago Blackhawks, and also there is the chemistry with former teammate Artemni Panarin that was a huge factor as well.

The New York Rangers are considered a team that could compete for the Stanley Cup, but end up having some disappointing play in the playoffs and Patrick Kane who has experience in playoff success was thought to be the final piece to put them over the top.

Yesterday the Rangers made a big move though and brought in another soon-to-be Unrestricted Free Agent, former 40 goal scorer Vladimir Tarasenko, which means they are no longer in on the Patrick Kane sweepstakes.

This surprised many as it seemed Kane was the perfect piece to the puzzle, but former NHL player, now Insider revealed the reasoning behind bailing on Kane and going for Tarasenko:

The concern for Kane's health is muddying this up. Ask is high for a risky situation #NHLBlackhawks.

Emily Kaplan also shared her thoughts on the matter:

According to sources, the Rangers targeted Tarasenko - a player they long coveted - and decided to go for it after feeling the asking prices for Timo Meier and Patrick Kane were too high.

Also sounds like New York had some concerns over Kane's hip injury.

It doesn't sound like the Rangers got to asking price point of discussions with Blackhawks - because ball is still in Patrick Kane's court coming to Chicago with what he wants to do.

But the NYR didn't want to wait on him, and also had concerns about his hip.
