This summer after winning a Memorial Cup in the CHL Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy stepped down as head coach and GM of the Quebec Remparts.
With his success in junior hockey and his experience coaching in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, many assumed he was pursuing a return to the NHL. However, coaching openings came and went without Roy filling any of them. This left him at home for the 2023-24 season. According to a new report from one source, this was Roy's choice.
Today on the Dupont Show host and announcer for the Quebec Remparts Ray Cloutier dropped a bombshell about the coaching prospects for Patrick Roy. According to Cloutier Roy was offered multiple head coaching positions but turned them down for a particular reason.
Roy reportedly did not want to travel from the West Coast out East. The teams offering Roy were apparently in the Western Conference where the travel is more rigorous.
With a year off to contemplate his options, Patrick Roy may return to the NHL. It would take the perfect fit though it sounds like. As more information is released about the future of Roy and his coaching career we will keep things updated.
