So the team traded with Ontario rival, the Ottawa Senators to get former two-time Stanley Cup Champion, Matt Murray, and also signed Washington Capitals cast-off Ilya Samsonov to a one year deal.
Both goaltenders have played in one game each so far to start the season, Murray losing to the Montreal Canadiens, and Samsonov beating his former team the Washington Capitals.
While Matt Murray is the 'starter' it looks like Samsonov might be stealing the net for some time as today Matt Murray left practice with an injury.

The Maple Leafs host Murray's former team tonight the Ottawa Senators, and Murray was projected to be the starter, but it does not appear that he will be able to play.
What makes matters worse for the Maple Leafs as well is due to salary cap and contracts, they may not even have a backup goalie for tonights game
Leafs are at 50 contract slots. The only other goalies under NHL deals are Källgren & Hildeby. Källgren got hurt last night & Hildeby is in Sweden. Ferguson & Peteuzzelli have played pro games so can't be signed to ATOs.
If Murray is hurt, the backup is uncertain tonight. Mike Stephens (@mikeystephens81) October 15, 2022
