Barry Trotz is a legendary NHL coach, he has coached in 1812 games and has a record of 914-670-60-168, which ranks him third all time, behind only Scotty Bowman and Joel Quenneville.
Whats very impressive with Trotz' record is, the majority of it came while he was the head coach of the Nashville Predators, who during his era, couldn't score to save their lives.
While yes the Predators had some elite defenceman like Shea Weber and Ryan Suter, but there were many years during Trotz's time that their leading point scorer had less than 60 points.
Trotz was fired from Nashville after missing the playoffs in 2014, and immediately joined the Washington Capitals, where he went on to win multiple division championships and the Stanley Cup in 2018.
The Capitals then stupidly let him walk right after winning the cup, where he then joined the New York Islanders. After 4 years on the Island where he went to the Eastern Conference finals in back to back years, he was again fired this season after missing the playoffs, and has chosen to step away from coaching for a bit.
Today, Trotz joined the Cam & Strick podcast where he discussed what would bring him back into coaching:
I don't know of any coach that takes a job in Canada ever wants to deal with it. I think there's a-y'know original 6, for me, I've never coached an original 6, that would intrigue me those teams always intrigue you, but the Canadian teams, you're under the microscope, but you sorta are in New York too. I wouldn't say it wouldn't, but you know there's a certain demand on ya. I know some of the Canadian coaches, god you probably can't go anywhere. You know, you step out of a restaurant, people are on Twitter saying you're there. I don't have much of a life. I think it takes a special coach-a special player to play in Canada because there's a different pressure then some of the non-traditional markets
So the Original 6 teams are the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers & Boston Bruins.
It does not sound like he wants to coach in the high pressure markets of Montreal, Toronto and New York, so that leaves Detroit, Chicago and Boston as the 3 teams that he would make a comeback for to check the ' coach original 6 team' off his bucket list.
