We've seen plenty of players retire, then realize they still have a lot more left in the tank and attempt a comeback to play professional hockey. One of the most famous was Gordie Howe who returned to the NHL to play with his sons when he was in his 50's.
This player isn't quite Gordie Howe, but played a very crucial part in helping his team win 3 cups in 6 years.
On July 25th 2021, Niklas Hjalmarsson announced his retirement from the National Hockey League. Hjalmarsson is only 35 years old and played his entire 822 NHL game career with the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes:
Well, after 14 months in retirement, Hjalmarsson now plans to join HV71 in the Swedish Elite Hockey League.
Hjalmarsson had this to say:
There have always been thoughts of playing in HV71 again and the desire has become even greater when I have been to the matches and felt the atmosphere in the arena. I drive by Husqvarna Garden every day and think about what it would have been like to play in HV71and I really want to give this a chance or I will regret it in the future.
I have great respect for the SHL as a league and now I will start training with the team to feel what I stand for. Then whether it will be two weeks, a year or three years, the future will tell. But I'm incredibly excited for hockey again and it will be great fun to come to Husqvarna Garden on Monday and meet everyone
