Jeff Gorton has arrived in Montreal and his first task is to evaluate all members of the Montreal Canadiens franchise. Gorton is shown in his past that he is extremely aggressive as a General Manager and with financial support behind him he's not afraid to make a bold move. You can quickly look at his history of buying out Kevin Shattenkirk so he could sign Artemi Panarin.
Today though when Renaud Lavoie was asked he provided a rather damning quote about one of the most popular members of the storied franchise:
"The new management does not owe anything to Carey Price. We must not forget either, that Carey lifted his no-trade clause last summer (for the expansion draft)!"
Obviously this quote has a lot of layers to unravel, but it would be difficult to believe that Carey Price at this stage in his career would be willing to go through an entire rebuild with the clock ticking on his career. Price did waive his no trade clause this past season and it will be interesting to see if Gorton asks Price to do the same again as he looks to help lift the Habs out of the their current funk.
With rumours already circulating that players like Josh Anderson, Ben Chiarot and Tyler Toffoli could be on the trade block, the next few months in Montreal will be extremely interesting.
