Last night when the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose sharks played their preseason game, Anaheim Ducks defenceman Urho Vaakanainen suffered a serious injury after falling hard into the boards and needed to be taken off by stretcher.

Ducks defenseman Urho Vaakanainen was just carted off on a stretcher after skating into the end boards behind the San Jose just after Derek Grant scored a goal 9:46 into the game. Scary incident. Entire team skated over to check on him in obvious concern.

The injury was so severe the referee's immediately called for a stretcher:

At 11pm last night, the Anaheim Ducks issued the following update:

Ducks defenseman Urho Vaakanainen was taken to UCI Medical Center for evaluation after being injured during tonight's game. He has full movement in his extremities and is fully conscious and alert.
