#Isles News: New York Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced today that Barry Trotz has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach. New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) May 9, 2022
Having finished his 4th season with the team, Trotz lead the Islanders to the playoffs in each of his first 3 season with the team.
The Islanders were eliminated in each of the past 2 postseasons by Tampa Bay, who would go on to win the Stanley Cup in both seasons.
He was hired after winning the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018.
Trotz is a two-time recipient of the Jack Adams award for best head coach in the national hockey league.
He finished with the Islanders on an overall winning record, 152-102-34, and has a career record of 914-670-60-168.
With the firing you have to wonder if the Islanders brain trust is planning a rebuild, and also which team will try to scoop up Trotz who is sure to draw a lot of interest.
Clubs with coaching vacancies or considering a change will have Trotz high on their radar. However, some believe Trotz also has interest in jumping into a management role. What is certain is that he will have options to be considered. https://t.co/rpOVo0Jocb Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) May 9, 2022
