Though one of the best teams in the NHL for the better part of 2 decades, there has been speculation all year that the core of the team that won 3 Stanley Cups together, forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and defenseman Kris Letang, may be having their last ride together.
The Penguins have exited the NHL playoffs in the first round the last 4 seasons, and Malkin and Letang are both unrestricted free agents this summer.
It has been reported that Penguins GM Brian Burke has made offers to Letang and Malkin but that both were low, and that neither deal sat well with Sidney Crosby.
Penguins insider @Real_RobRossi says on @937theFan that the Penguins offered Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin 3 year deals worth $15 million. And that those lowball offers DID NOT sit well with Sidney Crosby.

It will interesting see how this plays out and if there is any validity to this speculation, as unfortunate as it is (especially for fans purchasing the tickets) the NHL is a business.
If the Penguins begin a rebuild it will be interesting to see if even Crosby could play in another jersey in the NHL.
