Yesterday Zach Dean of Team Canada was given a game misconduct for what was a clean hit. This seemed like it would be the worst call of the tournament, but it turns out referees had something dumber in mind.
During today's game between Switzerland and Latvia a referee decided to call a much worse penalty. During the 2nd period Swiss forward Mischa Ramel was assessed a 10 minute misconduct for delay of game.
Everyone on the broadcast seemed confused by the call, that was until there was clarification provided. According to the broadcast the penalty was actually for an equipment violation. The actual reason, Mischa was chewing on his mouthguard.
Apparently there were no warnings given and this penalty was called and took many by surprise.
