An under 20 Junior hockey tournament being held in Sweden is under criticism after it was marred by a violent stick swing incident that left one teen in hospital and one possibly facing criminal charges. The game in question ended abruptly after 19-year old Kid Anderson, from byggeby, had his jaw broken and was eventually rushed to hospital by ambulance after being struck full force by a stick from an opposing player.

"I saw all the blood and then I vomited," said Andersson when asked about the incident.

Andersson and his team had traveled for a road game on the J20 series and most of the game was uneventful, but with 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd period the game was interrupted. Violence if this level is unheard of in Swedish Hockey and came as a complete surprise to everyone.

Kid Andersson admitted he was guilty of splashing water on a member of the opposing team while sitting on the players bench. But what happened next shocked everyone, the opposing team's player turned around and struck Andersson with his stick. Those in attendance described the stick swinging motion as being "axe like".

"Everything went so fast that I did not have time to react. I did not even know what had happened, but just saw that there was blood everywhere. Then I vomited and did not feel well at all. I did not know where I was going to go," said Andersson via text message to Sportbladet.

The communication occured via text message because even now, three days after the incident, Andersson is still unable to talk and is barely capable of even eating liquid food.

After the incident the game was stopped immediately and Andersson was transported by ambulance to Falun, where doctors tried to save what could be saved in his mouth.

Doctors reported that Andersson's entire upper jaw and lip were completely destroyed.

"I do not understand that this kind of thing exists in hockey and I hope that I will never see anything like it again on a hockey field," added Andersson.

The opposing team issued the following statements:

"Unfortunately, an incident occurred that led to one of your players being seriously injured. We regret what happened, this type of behavior from a player is not something that we as an association stand for. The player in question is currently suspended from all activities in the association. During the week, the board together with the leader will talk to the current player and the team about what happened. We are awaiting feedback and investigation from the district's disciplinary committee."

Andersson's father has already stated he has prepared and will be filing a police report for the incident.
