The NHL player with the best contract has been revealed.
A Recent Stanley Cup Finalist Takes the Cake
Matthew Tkachuk just finished having the season of his life for the Florida Panthers. But despite a career-high 109 points and a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, he doesn't exactly come cheap or does he?
Tkachuk was acquired by the Panthers for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar plus other pieces, and makes an AAV of $9.5 million for the next eight years. That's a hefty cap hit, but in The Athletic's eyes, it's excellent bang for the Panthers' buck.
In their list of the best NHL contracts, Tkachuk sits ahead of other forces in the league like Jack Hughes and Cale Makar. Given how the likes of Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews are likely to make more than $10 million a year for the foreseeable future, Tkachuk could widen his gap on that list even further next season.
