The Maple Leafs need to shed salary this offseason and moving Mrazek's $3.8 million would enable them to upgrade the roster.
This will also force Toronto to make a decision on whether to sign or replace pending unrestricted free agent Jack Campbell.
According to Powers, the Blackhawks could be looking for a bundle including Mrazek and a draft pick or a prospect. Seigel suggests the Maple Leafs could add a second-round pick with a B-level prospect or maybe even add defenseman Justin Holl in the deal to free up more room on their cap.
While there is no indication that Chicago or Toronto are considering such a deal, yet the presented offer makes sense. The Hawks are entering a rebuild and Mrazek could at least provide some depth in net for the near future while draft picks and prospects develop into long-term assets.
Can the Blackhawks solve the Maple Leafs' Petr Mrazek problem? @jonassiegel and I examine. https://t.co/NVyX08xFup Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) June 7, 2022
If this deal does not come through or isn't even considered by the parties involved, it at least presents what might take for the Leafs to find a club willing to take Mrazek off their hands and clear some space in their cap.
